Discovering the Heart of Banking: My Westpac PNG Journey

From Graduate to Risk Analyst, this is Caitlen Latumahina's career journey so far.

Starting my career has been both exciting and humbling.

After graduating from Divine Word University, I’m proud to now be working as a Risk Analyst within Operations at Westpac PNG, following the completion of the Graduate Program.

One of the moments that really shaped my experience was during my time with the Retail team at Gordons Branch. That was where things clicked for me. I got to see what it really meant to put customers first.

Speaking directly with customers and hearing their concerns, their needs, and even their feedback made me appreciate the work that happened behind the scenes to support and protect them. It made me proud to be part of an organisation that genuinely cares about doing the right thing.

The Graduate Program has given me the chance to experience different parts of the business, rotating across four teams. Not many people get that kind of exposure straight out of university, and I don’t take it for granted. It helped me understand how everything connects and how each team played a role in delivering for our customers.

What stood out to me the most is the culture. It’s inclusive, supportive, and people are always willing to help you learn. At first it can feel a bit unfamiliar, but over time you find your rhythm and start to feel right at home.

I still have a lot to learn, but I’m looking forward to continuing to grow, challenge myself, and improve every day.

I’m excited for what’s ahead and confident that this is just the beginning of the journey.
