Elizabeth Tandoa’s story is one of resilience, integrity and an unwavering belief in the power of education to transform lives.

As Deputy Principal of Gerehu Secondary School, Elizabeth has led a remarkable turnaround, helping reshape the school into an environment of discipline, growth and academic excellence. Since taking on the role in 2024, she has introduced holistic programs focused on the physical, mental, spiritual and educational development of students, fostering a culture of respect, responsibility and achievement.

Her leadership extends far beyond the school gates. For more than a decade, Elizabeth has operated a literacy and numeracy program from her own home, helping young children build foundational reading and writing skills. What began as a community initiative has grown into a valuable resource for families and has contributed to improved educational outcomes for countless students.

Elizabeth is also recognised for her courage in standing up for transparency and accountability within the education system. In 2024, she exposed corruption within the National Department of Education, enduring suspension, arrest and a lengthy court battle as a result. Despite these challenges, she remained steadfast in her commitment to integrity, ultimately helping strengthen governance and accountability within the sector.

Her achievements reflect a leadership style grounded in service, resilience and a determination to create opportunities for future generations. Through both institutional reform and community engagement, Elizabeth continues to make a profound contribution to education in Papua New Guinea.
