Emma Oliver is proving that conservation succeeds when communities are placed at its heart.

A marine biologist, educator and conservation leader, Emma has dedicated her career to protecting Papua New Guinea’s marine ecosystems while creating sustainable opportunities for local communities. As founder of ENB Sea Keepers and ENB Marine Conservation Consultancy Services, she has led initiatives that combine scientific research, community engagement and Indigenous knowledge to address some of the region’s most pressing environmental challenges.

Emma’s work includes coral restoration projects, marine biodiversity surveys and community-based conservation programs that empower coastal communities to become active stewards of their environment. Her approach balances environmental protection with livelihood opportunities, ensuring conservation outcomes are both practical and sustainable.

As a tutor at the Papua New Guinea University of Natural Resources and Environment, Emma is also shaping the next generation of environmental leaders through teaching and mentorship. She actively supports young women pursuing careers in marine science and sustainability, helping build pathways for greater participation in these fields.

Her leadership has earned international recognition, including selection as a One Young World Ambassador. More recently, she has represented Papua New Guinea on global platforms, ensuring Pacific voices are part of critical conversations about ocean conservation and climate resilience.
